Thoughts about hair

It's not me in the pic.. *Fun Fact: I have dark hair!*

I had my hair cut yesterday. Now my hair reaches down my shoulders. To be honest, if you had asked me a few years eariler, I would have told you that I wanted my hair to be long. I believed that long hair could make me feel like a princess or have a sense of accomplishment for having the patience to let them grow so much or just be confident as hair is an astonishingly important part of a girl's appearance. So, what changed?

One possible answer to this question is fashion. This year, it is in to cut your hair short. Emma Stone, Lucy Hale, Cara Delevingne are just a few celebrities who ventured to make the transition from long to short hair -and they killed it!-. Of course, I am not saying that just because a new trend shows up or generallly something new becomes in fashion, you should passively do it. However, you get the opportunity to see things that you haven't thought of and the ones you like you can try them out and see if they actually fit you.

Another explanation -and the one I like the most- is that we change. As we grow up, we start to understand better the world around us and ourselves. It's the experiences, the good and the bad ones, the risks we take and the choices we make that make us stick to or change our beliefs or some of our characteristics. But how this talk about life and personality can be related to a haircut?

When you feel that you are ready to do something extreme to your appearance even though you are not completely sure that it will look good on you, it means that you have accepted yourself. This can be referred to a haircut, to a tattoo, to a piercing or whatever. You realize what are the things that you like and they can be part of your style and what you don't or what are those that are not compatible with you anymore. In other words, you learn more about yourself and you are not afraid to show these realizations to the world. You are not willing to hide your true self anymore.

Undeniably, not all of our attempts to discover our style are successful. There will be times -yes, unfortunately they are many- that you wished you hadn't done something because it didn't make you beautiful as you thought that it would do. When something like this happens, first you'll be more creative than ever in order to come up with ways to cover it up. Eventually, you'll return to your previous and most pleasurable state or you'll come to terms with it and it'll start to grow on you. No matter what happens, not only will you see what does flatter you and what doesn't but also you'll learn more things about yourself, such as if you have the courage to try something extreme or if you have the confidence to go out and be happy despite the fact that you feel that you look awful or that the fashion police will arrest you at any moment.

All in all, if you want to change your hair or something else on you, do it! Don't hesitate to try new things. Even if you don't like the result, you can change it back. Get to know yourself and love your looks. Your appearance is a small mirror of yourself for strangers, so show them the real you.
