Thoughts about books
Yesterday, I was reading a book but my favorite character was brutally murdered. It was so strange but it was really hard for me to read the words out loud. I felt sad with his passing away. But it wasn't just that. I was also angry because he did nothing to deserve to die like that. He was a moral man trying to do the right thing for his family but that was creating trouble to some powerful people so they conspired against him and they got him out of their ways.
I know that it sounds crazy that I was so upset about the death of an imaginary person but when you read a book that you like, you start caring about the characters just like if they were real. Maybe it is because you can imagine them living their lives or because you can identify with them or because they experience something that can happen to you as well. No matter the reason the fictional characters gain the value of real people in your mind. And that is the magic of books. You make imaginary friends that go through adventures, dilemmas, ordeals that can help you overcome your real everyday problems.
How can that happen? Behind every story there is a writer, a human being who tries to convey a message inspired by his own life, which cannot be completely different and irrelevant with your life and your experiences. So, even if the author creates a whole new fictional world, like Westeros in Game of Thrones, or the characters are not humans, such as vampires, werewolves, witches, etc., the moral of the story can apply to all humankind -at least most of the times-. Besides that, it goes without saying that reading books not only improves the way you use your language but also makes your imagination vivid.
Therefore, even if you are not such a huge fan of books, you should read. Okay, you'll not like every book but if you find your favorite genre of literature, I guarantee that you will become a bookworm.
