Thoughts about libraries 🏢
If you have read my previous post (in case you haven't, click here), then you know that I am back to my home town. What was one of the first things that I did since I came back? You might have guessed it from the title but I visited the library.
But why did such a simple and insignificant act lead me to write a whole blog post? Let me first clarify that I have visited libraries before and I have borrowed books a lot of times. So what makes this specific library so special is the fact that this was the first library that I had ever visited and became a member of.
Going back there besides of the usual excitement, I felt nostalgia as I remembered my younger self entering the same room and feeling like entering a completely new world, a paradise. The stranger thing for me is the fact that although I've been to several libraries besides that one, I've never felt this combination of euphoria and reminiscence of my adolescence. It reminded me the feeling I had the first and all the others times that I entered this building; the feeling that I wanted to read each and every book that was in that room.
My point is that you should go to libraries and you should read as many books as you can, because you get to live and to feel things that you have never imagined before or you get to see perspectives that you've never thought of before. You get to make new friends and although they are imaginary they help you learn yourself.
Now, even though books are always good for you, I have to mention that buildings are not always well-kempt. For this first visit to the library after so many years I went with my mom, as she wanted to find a book to read as well. And when we entered the building, she noticed that it needed a bit of sweeping and the walls needed repainting. And she was right. It was just that I was so excited for going back to my teenage paradise that I didn't care about that. However, no building should be left to look like that, because appearance is important for the first impression of a building -or of a person- either we like it or not.
So, my advice is go to libraries and read as much as you can because this love for reading about the life experiences of people -even thought they may not really exist- can make you not only more compassionate as a person but also can broaden your horizon as you may experience things through these characters that you may never have the chance to live in real life.
P.S. get excited for the post of the books that I've read this month!
