Thoughts about bicycle rides 🚴
One of the things that my friends and I started doing recently is going out with our bicycles.
Why is that so important? It has to do with my relation with bicycles. I learned how to ride a bicycle about 4 years ago. But still I am kinda scared to go out with my bicycle. My biggest fear is narrow roads, where even though I can place myself as close to the pavement as I can, there is not enough space for the car to pass me.
Despite of my insecurity that I am a poor bicycle rider, I love my bicycle. And that is because it is more than just a means of transportation for me. It is a symbol that I can do whatever I desire if I put my mind to it. Before I started learning how to ride a bicycle, I was discouraged by some people, who said that I should have learned that when I was younger or that I will probably fall and hurt myself. In spite of all the fears that I had and the fright that others made me feel, I managed to be totally capable of going around with my bike. As I said, I am still worried that I might cause an accident but every time that I go out with my bike I face my fears and I gain more and more confidence of my bike abilities. It goes without saying that I never came close to causing an accident, as I am extremely careful and I may or may not choose the less popular or the wider roads to travel on.
But it is totally worth it, as there is no better feeling than being on the bike and feeling the air on your face and listening to the hustle and bustle of the area and looking around at the houses and at the sky. It feels like freedom, like independence. It's like it's only you and the nature around.
So, all I am trying to do with this post is to encourage you to learn a skill that you always wanted to but you never did because you were scared to actually do it. Remember that all you need is determination and patience. Having these two traits you can achieve anything no matter how impossible it may seem now.
