Thoughts about getting closer to your dream
Yesterday was a great day for me. Yesterday I accepted an offer of attending the MA Creative Writing course at University of Nottingham. And from now on -although lessons start in September- I am officially a postgraduate student. 😄
The aim of this post isn't to brag about my life -although I see that I totally did so in the introductory paragraph- but to show everyone, including myself, that it is totally possible to make your dreams come true.
Of course, ticking off all your goals isn't easy at all. It requires a lot of work and a lot of perseverance. I know how frustrating it is when you study or work hard for something, but you fail in the end. But if you are truly passionate about and devoted to an art or a profession, you shouldn't give up your dream. Thinking you'll never fail in life is an illusion since humans are flawed beings, so it is implausible to always do everything right. Plus, you should see failure as a lesson, as feedback on aspects you need to improve.
I am going to be honest and say that I always get extemely sad when I don't succeed at something that I have put my mind to. This reaction is natural. However, reminiscing about my achievements make me want to do similar, or even greater things. The biggest achievement in my life so far is finishing my undergraduate studies and graduating from university. This success didn't come easily since there were setbacks instigated either by me or by my reaction to situations around me. But the thrilling sensation and pride I felt during my graduation was so intense that it motivates and encourages me to keep striving so that I can experience this feeling again. This is why now, I just long to do the same by facing the challenge of getting into postgraduate studies.
What I am saying, however, entails that when you tick off a goal from your list, it is replaced by a new and usually more demanding one, which means that there will always be something that you're fighting for. I see this as a positive thing since it proves that you are a motivated and determinded person who enjoys learning and evolving professionally and, I believe consequently, personally. It goes without saying that you acknowledge that you need to divide your big goal to easier-to-do daily tasks while at the same time making sure that you're taking care of yourself and your mental health. This is the only effective way I know of which will lead you to your desired destination in the long run.
Unfortunately, there is no easy or fast way to reach your sought-after goal. I like to think myself as a dreamer because no matter the difficulties or my insecurities, I don't stop fighting for the dreams/goals I have set. When I know it in my gut that the fulfilment of a dream can bring bliss in my life, and I believe that I have what it takes, or I just need to hone skills I've already acquired in order to reach that goal, I don't give up and I keep trying to become the best version of me for the sake of my ambition.
To conclude my story, yesterday I reached a milestone. I completed a major step towards my big goal of obtaining a master's degree. And I know that venturing to the fulfilment of a lifelong aspiration can be scary, but it is definitely well worth the strains and the sacrifices. In life, the things that you have to fight for in order to obtain them are usually much more valuable and rewarding. So, I would love to read about your dream at the comments section. Don't feel discouraged to share in case you are just at the beginning of your journey like I am.
